Deciding Which Dog Crates To Buy- Our rule of thumb is to purchase dog crates that allow the pet to stand up with his head just touching the top of the dog crates. It is meant to be a little bedroom not a play pen.
- If you are buying dog crates for a puppy, get one that has a divider panel with it so you can restrict the puppy's movement inside the dog crates (Midwest dog crates come with a panel). For the most part dogs tend not to go to the bathroom where they sleep so restricting movement teaches them to wait until they are not in the dog crates to 'pee'.
- We like a dog crate pad to give the pet more comfort which encourages them to use the dog crates as their 'safe place'.
- We have traveled the country showing dogs and have used both the vari-kennel type dog crates and the wire type dog crates but prefer the wire dog crates for convenience since they fold up nicely.
- We also like the 2 door dog crates because of the flexibility the extra door provides when choosing a location.
